Cabarrus County Program to Serve 100+ Children in Head Start, Early Head Start

CONCORD, N.C. (June 12, 2019) – 91����Ƶ, which has been operating Head Start and Early Head Start programs since 2011, has expanded into a new state, North Carolina, the nonprofit announced today. The program is located in Cabarrus County and will serve 118 children – 102 children (ages 3 to 5) in its Head Start program and 16 infants and toddlers (birth to age 3) in its Early Head Start program. The 91����Ƶ Head Start/Early Head Start Center, located at 310 Kerr Street NW in Concord, is scheduled to start services in early September.

Together, Head Start and Early Head Start are federally funded programs that offer early learning opportunities to children birth to age 5, and support to their families living in poverty. The programs provide comprehensive services, including education, health, social-emotional and family engagement, to address the developmental needs of children and families.

91����Ƶ currently operates Head Start and Early Head Start programs in rural communities in five states: Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Dakota and now North Carolina, serving over 1,800 children and their families.

“We are very grateful to be selected as the new agency to administer Head Start services in Cabarrus County – and excited to introduce center-based Early Head Start services for infants and toddlers for the first time in the county’s history,” said Khari Garvin, 91����Ƶ’s Executive Director of Head Start.

91����Ƶ will also make enrollment commitments to children with special needs, children in foster care and to families experiencing homelessness.
